Siouxland Christian 2017-18 Preview

Siouxland Christian Eagles

Class 1A- Western Valley Conference

2016-17 Record: 20-4 (9-0 WVC)

(Lost in District Final to MVAO 49-36)

Head Coach: Anthony Elias

Anthony Elias takes over a Siouxland Christian program following a five-year stint as the head assistant coach at Morningside College. The Eagles lose seven players from last season, meaning Elias must rely on his underclassmen to keep the Eagles competitive this season.

The loss of all-state guard Christian Kyles is easily Siouxland Christian’s biggest loss, as he led the way with 21.4 points per game and knocked down 56.2 percent off his shots from the field. Kyles was one of the best free-throw shooters in the Western Valley Conference as well by shooting 81.1 percent from the line. Other big losses were Ahmed Musa, Goay Deang and Jeremiah Khat, who transferred to Sergeant Bluff-Luton for his senior season.

With a young lineup, junior guard Parker Moss will be the top returning player for the Eagles. Moss averaged 5.2 ppg and grabbed 90 total rebounds last season. Sophomores Christian Heilbuth and Jonah DeRoos will also be asked to step up and be key contributors as well. Heilbuth at 6-5 will provide an inside presence.

The Eagles will go through growing pains with an inexperienced lineup, but their is promise with this program heading forward with Elias at the helm.
