Hinton 2017-18 Preview

Hinton Blackhawks

Class 2A- War Eagle Conference

2016-17 Record: 18-5 (13-2 WEC)

(Lost in District Final to Alta-Aurelia 68-67)

Head Coach: John Spies

The Blackhawks will be looking for new playmakers this season with the loss of eight seniors from a team that gave the program its best season since 2008-09. The most notable loss will be Hinton’s all-time leading scorer Jay Small, who averaged 24.0 points per game and scored 1,875 career points.

Spies will now lean on senior Jacob Kirwan and juniors Aiden Brock and Braden Vonk. Kirwan averaged 3.3 ppg off the bench and recorded 92 total rebounds.

It will be a rebuilding year for Hinton and wins will be a lot harder to come by in War Eagle Conference play. It’s fair to say this will be Spies’ biggest coaching challenge yet.
